2. Apply glue along each long edge on the wrong side of the leather. A thin layer about 5mm (1⁄4in) wide is plenty. Wait 5–10 minutes for the glue to go tacky (b).

3. Carefully fold the leather in half wrong sides together. Make sure the edges are aligned and press together (c). Press along the centre to create a flat even fold (d). Trim off any uneven edges with a sharp scalpel.

4. Set up your sewing machine (see Techniques: Machine Sewing). Sew down each side 5mm (1⁄4in) in from the edge, remembering to reverse at each end (e).
